Intended use
The Macra® Lp(a) Enzyme Linked Immunosorbant Assay (ELISA) kit, is an in vitro diagnostic device for the quantitative measurement of Lp(a), in human serum or plasma, for the assessment of risk for coronary heart disease (CHD) in specific populations, along with other risk factors. For In vitro Diagnostic Use.
Lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)] is a spherical lipid particle similar to low-density lipoprotein (LDL). Lp(a) differs from LDL by containing an additional glycoprotein, apolipoprotein(a) [apo(a)]. Numerous studies beginning in the 1970s have reported an association of Lp(a) with coronary heart disease (CHD). Lipoprotein (a) levels are influenced by genetic factors and vary with ethnic population.
